An Ode to Chisom; Poem by Philip C Abonyi

AN ODE TO CHISOM

Like thousand demons in body of a serpent,
Thousand angels concealed in you,
Like the season mango trees,
You keep riping in varieties of goodness,
Like my village masquerade,
You have trapped my time and eyes.

Wear your sari like the indies,
And pose like an African mountain,
Open your young teeth with young smile,
Like a maiden giving her husband marital wine,
Let love lit light on my life,
I need to burn to ashes-
This bundle burden of unhappiness,
This parasitic loneliness eating the fertile mind,
That each season the success
I harvest is ill-luck.

Fall on me like an august rain,
And wash the sorrow on my brow,
Look at the fixed pieces of broken boy,
And measure the pain of his yesterdays,
You see, he needs your basket,
To carry his dream to good height.

Do not carry those mirror on your face,
Where I see myself as other boys,
Those street dogs who find love,
When a woman stand at ease,
And each time they name their partner ex,
And tittle their deeds a game.

Chisom, I call your milky name,
Chisom, I pronounce your name again,
Like thousand demons in body of serpent,
Thousand angels concealed in you,
Like the season mango trees,
You keep riping in varieties of goodness,
Like my village masquerade,
You have trapped my time and eyes.
