ARTmosterrific is a three-word portmanteau that takes precedence as such — art-most-and-terrific. The three words signify the order and magnificence of art. ARTmosterrific was established in 2017 as an online community, connecting artists and enthusiasts of art with programmes that ranged from poetry review, prose review, book review, quotes and motivation, photography session, to intellectualism. Ran for almost 2 years in what could be described as “backdoor operation”, the student-mods decided to go front door and so launched the website artmosterrific.com in the year 2020.

Without overlooking its community programmes, ARTmosterrific is an online platform and community run for and by African undergraduates. It runs on five sections, all different and independent from one another:

Virtual residence where 3 college writers are mentored to complete a book of art; African Prize for Undergraduates awarded every year to an African undergraduate; Biannual Chapbook that works as an anthology, exploring thematic issues in society; Online Issue/Magazine (Prose, Poetry, Essay, Photography); and the Community (with webinars, Book Chat, Bookstore, Physical Conference, etc).

ARTmosterrific Magazine Issue 02

For Issue/Magazine, submissions are currently OPEN. ARTmosterrific published its first issue in late 2020 to massive acceptance and is looking to build on that for Issue 02. The students-led platform wants nothing more than to see your work published. While the editors accept all works, they encourage works from undergraduates in Africa. They accept and publish Fiction, Flash Fiction, Essay, Artworks, and Poetry.

For Fiction, they are looking for fresh stories captured from fresh perspectives, irrespective of theme, setting, and form. For Essay and Artworks, they urge you to submit writings and art pieces that explore contemporary issues that are shaping the reality around us. For Poetry, they want you to send them everything that makes you sleep, keeps you awake, breaks your heart, and repairs it — everything that rusts and unrusts you. Check their submission page to submit.
