How to submit to ArabLit Story Prize 2020, worth $500

The ArabLit Story Prize is currently open for its 2020 edition. The prize is an award for the best short stories, in any genre, that has been newly translated from Arabic to English.

Translators must have rights to the work as well, and translations must have been previously unpublished on any platform. The original copy which is in Arabic must be submitted as well.

They want translations, as stated above, not a loose adaptation nor a work written originally in English.

How To Submit for ArabLit Story Prize

  • Include a cover letter with the name of author, translator, story, and length.
  • The story in translation must be up to 3000 words or fewer in English, attached as a Word document.
  • Attach the translated story in the original Arabic, preferably in the same Word document.
  • Provide some evidence you have the rights to translate and publish this story, such as an email from the author or a scanned note.

Note: It is preferable that you do not put the author or translator’s name on the attached works. In any case, names will be stripped off before they are sent to the judges.

Prize

The ArabLit Story prize promises $500 to the winner, split between author and translator. Shortlisted stories will have the opportunity to be published in the ArabLit Quarterly as well as a future anthology.
