Nigerians demand lockdown extension as Lagos records 80 cases in one day

Nigerians have called upon the Federal Government of Nigeria to immediately announce lockdown extension due to the massive number of confirmed cases recorded in Lagos in one day.

Six hours ago, Nigeria Center for Disease Control NCDC released the breakdown of covid-19 cases recorded on 28th April, 2020;

“195 new cases of #COVID19 reported; 80-Lagos, 38-Kano, 15-Ogun, 15-Bauchi, 11-Borno, 10-Gombe, 9-Sokoto, 5-Edo, 5-Jigawa, 2-Zamfara, 1-Rivers, 1-Enugu, 1-Delt,a 1-FCT, 1-Nasarawa. As at 11:50pm 28th April- 1532 confirmed cases of #COVID19 reported in Nigeria. Discharged: 255, Deaths: 44″

Following this report, Nigerians came on Social media to demand total lockdown extension which is supposed to end on Monday, 4th of May, 2020.

Recall that on Monday 27th April, President Muhammadu Buhari gave his decision on the ongoing lockdown;

“1) There will be an overnight curfew from 8pm to 6am. This means all movement will be prohibited during this period except essential services;

2) There will be a ban on non-essential inter-state passenger travel until further notice;

3) Partial and controlled interstate movement of goods and services will be allowed for the movement of goods and services from producers to consumers;

4) We will strictly ensure the mandatory use of face masks or coverings in public in addition to maintaining physical distancing and personal hygiene.

Furthermore, the restrictions of on social and religious gathers shall remain in place. The gradual ease of lockdown measures in FCT, Lagos & Ogun States will begin effective Monday, 4th May, 2020

This is to be followed with aggressive testing & contact tracing measures with restoration of some economic activities in certain sectors”

However, Nigerians have now called on the Federal Government to act on lockdown extension as the cases keep rising.

  1. What we regarded as lockdown before now was a child play if anything is to go by. If you have money you move freely, no check of patients to private hospitals we only hear when things went wrong. This is life issue government should wake up to their responsibility. I have not seen any seriousness in this matter, people want to make money at any slight opportunity. God help Nigeria
