Poetry: Illusion by Mubarak Adekunle Odeyemi

Illusion

I used to think I held you down

Even when you were floating unsteadily in the oceans of love we made

I felt the waves would never make you drown.

I used to think it was just you and me in our castle

Making memories that would forever remain adorable

Days without you by my side was unimaginable

Too blind to notice you were suspended in the sky

Waving your hands and calling for help

The adorable room you once loved to rest

Became a crying space you choose to brood

I thought I lost you momentarily

But how do you lose what’s already been lost?

The path got narrower as you fade away with your memories

For I was only blinded by the illusion you’d always stay with me
