Poetry: The Origin of God by Fame Odey

The Origin of God

Michael Ace wrote this, I follow.

Someone said those in heaven do not cry
I looked towards the sky and tears shed fro God’s eyes
Each teardrop, holding knotted stories
Stories burn out of miseries and rhetorics

I picked a pencil and paper one lazy night
I wanted to paint my grand father’s face
So my kindred wouldn’t go far in search of God
Since God was the image of man

God originates in heARTs like paintings
In the nest of the richest man
In the hut of the poorest guy
And in the lieu of conscience

God originates in heARTs like poetry
In the veins of the healthiest
In the marrow of the dead
And in the colour of this ink

God originates in black phases too
In the hot breast of Savannah
In the ardour of Zambezi
And in the rust of Ikogosi

When I finished painting my grand father’s face
I placed the paper in most sacred inn
I broke the pencil so no trace of God’s origin can be traced
Because God’s name is the euphemism for rhetorics
