Opportunity For Writers: Submit to the 2018 African Writers Award

For this year 2018, African Writers Award is looking for New Voices and New Narratives in the Fight for the Girl Child
Every year, the African Writers Development Trust hosts the African
Writers Award (AWA) as the high point of the African Writers Conference
(AWC). This award is given to writers of African descent with stories
that are unique, impactful and thought-provoking.
  • Flash Fiction: Max 300 words
  • Short Stories: 2,500 – 5,000 words
  • Poetry: Max 30 lines
  • Children’s stories: Max 1,500 with illustrations (optional).
Four writers of African descent will win an award each with prize
money. The awards will be presented at the 2018 AWC dinner and awards
night scheduled for December 1, 2018, at 6 PM. The Venue will be
communicated later.
Please read these instructions carefully:
  1. Although the author retains full copyright, AWDT reserves the right
    to use the winning stories for promotional purposes only. This may
    include publishing it in a magazine.
  2. Submissions must be in English and must never have been published anywhere.
  3. All entries must be themed-based. They are looking for write-ups that
    will focus on New Voices and New Narratives in the Fight for the Girl
    Child.
  4. Only one entry per writer.
  5. Submissions must include the author’s bio and picture including links to social media pages, websites and blogs if any.
  6. Deadline for submission is October 13, 2018.
