JAMB Announces UTME Results: Less than 1% of Candidates Achieve Scores Exceeding 300

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced the results of the 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), revealing that 8,401 candidates (0.4%) scored above 300. This information was disclosed during a press conference held on Monday in Abuja.

Ishaq Oluyede, the Registrar of JAMB, reported that a total of 1,989,668 candidates registered for the exam, marking a 24.7% increase compared to the previous year (2023).

Out of the registered candidates, 80,810 were absent, leaving 1,904,189 candidates who sat for the UTME during the six-day examination period.

The Board also announced that the results of 1,842,464 candidates were released while 64,624 results are currently under investigation for various reasons.

The registrar also noted a notable increase in female enrollment, with more than 1 million girls registering for the exams. Additionally, there was a 36.2% rise in the enrollment of Persons Living With Disabilities (PLWDs).

In the released results, 8,401 candidates achieved scores exceeding 300, 77,070 candidates scored 250 and above, 439,974 scored 200 and above, and 1,402,490 scored below 200.

This indicates that only 0.4% achieved scores above 300, while 24% scored 50% (200/400) and higher.

Additionally, he revealed that disruptions were encountered in only 25 out of 9,156 sessions, impacting a mere 150 sessions across 95 centers.

Oluyede, JAMB’s Registrar also stated that out of the 774 centers utilized, only one failed to meet the stringent criteria, highlighting JAMB’s commitment to quality assurance. The board concluded by saying that it is withholding the name(s) of the best performing students.
