Opportunity for Writers: Mary McCarthy Prize for Short Fiction

This opportunity for writers presents a prize of $200 cash Award and publication of the winning manuscript, plus a standard royalty contract.

Judge: Alice Sebold.

Eligibility:

• Only for short fiction writers of English
• Employees of Sarabande Books. Inc. are not eligible.
• Submissions may include collection of short stories or short novels.
• Works previously appeared in magazines or anthologies may be included.
• Previously published collections are not eligible.
• Close friends or current students of the Judge are not eligible.

Requirements:

• Author’s name must not appear on manuscript.
• Must be typed. (Standard font, 12 pt. Double-spaced. If printed, standard white printer paper is preferred).
• Word Count: 150 – 250 pages.
• Must be accompanied by a $29 submission fee.

Winner will be selected in September, all entrants will be informed if the winners/finalists shortly after. Sarabande Books will consider all finalists for publication.
