1. The Sir Peter Ustinov Television Scriptwriting Award 2022

The Sir Peter Ustinov Television Scriptwriting Award is administered by the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Foundation located in New York City. Each year, The Foundation administers the Sir Peter Ustinov Television Scriptwriting Award. The competition is designed to motivate non-American novice writers under the age of 30, and offer them the recognition and encouragement that might lead to a successful career in television scriptwriting.

2. Apply: Queen Mary Wasafiri New Writing Prize 2022

Exceptionally international in scope, the prize supports writers who have not yet published a book-length work, with no limits on age, gender, nationality, or background. The winners of each category will receive a £1,000 cash prize and publication, and will be published in Wasafiri’s print magazine.

3. Apply: The Lindisfarne Prize for Crime Fiction 2022

The winning entry will be awarded a prize of £2500 to support the completion of their work and funding towards a year’s membership of both the Society of Authors (SoA) and the Alliance of Independent Authors (ALLi), and smaller financial awards to shortlisted candidates. Entries are open from 31st January 2022 – 30th June 2021.

The Drue Heinz Literature Prize recognizes and supports writers of short fiction and makes their work available to readers around the world. The award is open to authors who have published a book-length collection of fiction or at least three short stories or novellas in commercial magazines or literary journals.

5. The Beagle North Short Story Competition 2022

The Beagle North Short Story Competition runs quarterly. The next closing date is June 30th, 2022. It’s free to enter. The theme for this quarter’s short story competition is ‘Connections’. What this means to you is entirely subjective. Your piece may discuss familial connections, friendships, re-establishing old relationships, or anything that sees a connection being formed or, alternatively, falling apart.

6. The Bulwer Lytton Fiction Contest

Founded in 1982 at San Jose State University in California, the Bulwer-Lytton Fiction Contest challenges entrants to compose opening sentences to the worst of all possible novels. Anyone can enter. Must be original and unpublished. Each entry must consist of a single sentence. The entry shouldn’t go beyond 50 or 60 words.
