2021 University of Otago Research Scholarship For International Students

The Graduate Research School oversees graduate research studies at the University of Otago. We provide policy advice for doctoral and research Masters’ degrees, have oversight of all administrative matters related to the PhD programme, provide targeted support for Māori postgraduates.

The School is part of the University’s Research Division. We have a dedicated team of managers, administrators and advisers ready to assist you.

Otago offers research Master’s scholarships to support students during the thesis part of a research Master’s degree (pre-thesis papers are not covered by these scholarships), or those studying for a coursework Master’s that does not have a thesis component.

Scholarship Requirements

The University of Otago International Research Master’s Scholarship provides funding to support international Master’s students studying at the University of Otago.

Applicants must be:

  • obtaining their first Master’s qualification
  • International students
  • undertaking a thesis-based Master’s

Selection is based predominantly on academic merit and the applicant’s potential for research.

Scholarship Duration and Reward

  • The AUT International Scholarships 2022 in New Zealand are divided into the following categories: Masters Degree:
    • NZ$15,000 Stipend per Annum
    • Domestic Tuition Fees waiver (excludes student services fee and insurance)

    PhD Degree:

    • NZ$27,000 stipend per annum
    • Domestic tuition fees waiver for 36 months (excludes student services fee and insurance)

Applications for scholarships are made online through the University’s website. An invitation to apply for scholarships is sent once an application for admission to the relevant qualification is complete.

Applications may be made at any time and should normally accompany the application for admission to the relevant qualification.

Where an applicant is completing a Master’s degree which includes enrolment in papers prior to enrolment in a thesis, the application should normally be made following completion of those papers. An invitation will be sent when enrolment in the thesis component of the Master’s degree is completed.
