Six weeks ago, President Tinubu issued an instruction to suspend all programs administered by the National Social Investment Programme Agency (NSIPA). Additionally, he appointed a panel led by Wale Edun, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy. Their primary task was to conduct a comprehensive diagnostic assessment of the financial architecture and framework of the social investment programs. However, despite these actions, no conclusive reforms have been announced.
The National Social Investment Programme (NSIP) is a vital initiative by the Nigerian government aimed at addressing poverty, hunger, and inequality. Established in 2016, it comprises four core programs: N-Power, NHGSFP, GEEP, and CCT.
Unfortunately, Npower beneficiaries find themselves in a challenging situation. They are owed eight months of backlog payments even before the program’s suspension. The economic hardship faced by these beneficiaries during this period has been significant.
In response, the beneficiaries are urging the president to lift the suspension on the NSIP program and resume activities. Their plea is rooted in the difficulties they continue to endure. Let us hope for swift action to alleviate their plight.
